Last night Light and Sie opened its doors to the public for the first time. I have been anxiously waiting for this to happen. When I first heard that the Dallas collecting duo of Stanley Light and Andrew Sie were opening a gallery, I wasn’t sure what to think; being a collector does not a gallerist make. Rumors of their globetrotting around to fairs and galleries, spread like wildfire. Talk of a 13,000 sq. ft. behemoth slayed me.

Like any sharp student, when you hit the books and test time rolls around you generally come through in spades. That is exactly what they did. I cannot begin to tell you how immaculate this gallery is. The most dramatic gallery entrance I have ever encountered, sets the tone for the entire space. As you pass through the glass doors you enter the main gallery space. Everything screams museum in its presentation, every detail is accounted for.

Anderson and Low open the space with Chrysalis which is a very large body of work, that is much more abstract than their earlier work, and references their architectural series as a point of departure. Each of the chromogenic prints are editions of 5, most of which are mounted to aluminum and face mounted to plexi and measure 48″x48.” The work is definitely for the collector or appreciator of the non-representational. A small exhibition catalogue accompanies the exhibition.
