Dallas Society of Visual Communications Kicks off their 50 year anniversary
The Dallas Society of Visual Communications(AKA The DSVC) is kicking off their 50th anniversary September 12th (from 6-8PM) with their first meeting of the season. The meetings are held at Cityplace which is located at the corner of Haskell and 75, just off the North bound service rd. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the DSVC they are a Dallas based non-profit organization centered around building community amongst career creatives (i.e. art directors, designers, photographers, illustrators etc…)
The 6-7 mixer is a good opportunity to mingle and glad hand your fellow designers, art directors, creative directors, paper and printing reps or pretty much any other industry head you can think of.
There is always a good spread of food, if your early, and a cash bar, should you need something to take the edge off before choppin’ it up. The meeting’s sponsors usually roll out a nice array of promotions, of which I have walked away with some great stuff over the years.
The talks begin promptly at 7pm and usually last for a little over an hour. After the talk there is always a short Q&A and if you hang around a bit you can generally catch the speaker for a minute or 2.
From what I understand this year’s roster of guest speakers will consist of Texas’ most widely recognized creatives in the industry. DJ Stout will be first out the gate. DJ was the Art Director for Texas Monthly for over a decade. During his tenure the publication was nominated for 10 National Magazine Awards and took home 3, for Photography and for General Excellence in 1990, and again for General Excellence in 1992. Since 2000 he has taken his place as a partner in the Austin office of Pentagram.
