Dallas’ 3rd Gift to the World

In the spirit of the abundant holiday gift giving that will be taking place over the next couple of months, all the Metroblogging cities are giving 7 gifts to the world throughout the week of NOV 26th – DEC 2. This is Dallas’ 3rd Gift to the World.

JACK KILBY & THE INTEGRATED CIRCUIT

Jack Kilby of Dallas’ own Texas Instruments built the first Integrated Circuit which went on to revolutionize the world as we know it. Thanks to Jack, we have the computers that we are reading this post with, and the cell phones we’ll use to bail our friends out on “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” when they call and ask us to answer who created the first micro-chip. So I guess this means that everything is NOT bigger in Texas…well at least not in size.

For a facinaating article on Jack Kilby, be sure to read this article: The Chip that Jack Built Changed the World.

Yep, the benefits are too numerous to be counted at this point. Your 3rd gift relates to our 5th, Gaming and more specifically, computer gaming. Dallas gave us id Software and therefore Doom and Quake among others. Frag!
