Unbearable Heat and the Homeless
The homeless walking the streets have really been getting quite aggressive over the past few days. Just this weekend as I was pulling up to park, a lady ran up to my car door and waited for me to get out so she could ask for some change. On the way back to my car, another man approached me asking for money to the point of almost arguing with me all the way up to my car door. This heat has got to be driving them insane…and I am growing quite concerned, both for their safety and mine.
Just today outside my home, I heard another argument taking place similar to the one I had yesterday on the way to my car. It made me think to do a little research on the internet about finding out what help is offered for the homeless in my neighborhood. Unfortunately my search yielded minimal results.
Dallas City Hall’s website states that there is a homeless consortium set up for the city of Dallas. But there were no links pointing me to any homeless resources. I’ll have to wait till tomorrow to try and call them during business hours.
Other than that one link, Google does not offer much else. I did find a lot of news stories about how Dallas has reduced the homeless population over the past few years, or other news articles where a homeless person committed a crime. I also checked Switchboard.com and searched for “homeless,” again all that was pulled up the City of Dallas’ homeless consortium again.
There has got to be some sort of resources other than the City of Dallas. I’m just having a really hard time finding any. I guess my next search should be missions and religious organizations and charities. Any comments to any would be greatly appreciated. I’d love to be able where to find help in pointing these melting people on the street to somewhere their brains won’t steam to craziness inside their own skulls.
A bum threw a fortune cookie at me outside Freebirds on Greenville a couple weeks ago.
Nice. What did the fortune say?
Dallas Life Foundation is a great resource.
