Private Club Art Show at Zubar Wed 21 June
Where: Zubar located at 2012 Lower Greenville Avenue
When: Opening reception is June 21st from 6pm to 9pm
Private Club is a series of recent works by Dallas artist Benjamin Hancock in collaboration with Super Conscious Art Collective. Mixed media varies throughout the show including acrylic, oil, transfers, and etchings on wood in sizes ranging from 1 to 4 feet. Private Club is a celebration of elite society and popular culture. The subject matter consists of recreational rituals, award ceremonies, and preparatory school. Minimal silhouetted images are elegantly displayed on rare wood inlays. Balanced with modern heraldic crests silk screened and laser etched onto fine wood. Layers of chichi pop culture icons like graffiti and eighties graphics contrasted with intricate old European designs give the work a unique appeal.
Come out and see the work; a 30% donation of all purchases will be made to the numerous Dallas charities. Complimentary valet, d’oeuvres and wine will be provided to patrons.
POST SENT IN BY: Benjamin Hancock
Arcadia burning to the ground really put a dent in attendance at this reception, but I stayed for the duration and had a lot of time to spend with the work. The image above I felt was the most resolved of the show and definitely stood out. The pieces which are lone silhouettes aren’t as successful. The surfaces are really beautiful and I think Hancock is onto something. Ryan McGinness is an evident influence, but the work is not as visually intense as McGinness of late, and has its own sense of style. If Hancock continues with the medium, I could see him hitting stride, I feel this application with different subject matter could be much more visually impactful and create more meaning.
