Yes, I know, it’s a sign of maturity when real estate makes you slobber more than porn. On that note, there’s much to slobber about this weekend. Modern house tour. By White Rock Lake. Creammmmmmm. I really do plan to go. Heard two of the architects on NPR this morning. Can you say anti-McMansion? If you’re looking for motivation to get those multi-millions streaming into those empty pockets, here’s some details:

The First-Ever East White Rock Lake Home Tour, April 22-23 from 12-6 p.m., features break-through contemporary homes from the late 1950s/early 1960s and a modern “green” home built in 2000 to coincide with Earth Day weekend. The five home tour includes two homes built by then progressive Ju-Nel Homes and architect Lyle Rowley, two Ju-Nel like homes and a recently completed “green” home by GGOArchitects principal and resident, Gary Olp. Please feel free to tour the homes in any order. Architect Lyle Rowley will present at 10476 Silverock on Saturday and at 10449 Vinemont on Sunday from noon to 1 p.m. Architect Gary Olp will present 9744 Northcliff from 4 to 6 p.m. both days. Tickets are $7 through April 15th and $9 thereafter (11 and under admitted free) and may be purchased at Hexter Elementary, White Rock Coffee and at any of the homes on tour during the event. All proceeds go to Hexter Elementary School’s art education program, which is not funded by Dallas ISD and relies solely on Hexter PTA fundraisers like this to pay the art teacher’s salary and purchase art, music and drama supplies. Sponsors include: White Rock Coffee, Central Market, Elizabeth Simon Designs, Hollywood Floral, Urban Flowers and Gift Market, Casa Linda Bakery, Scallini’s Pizza & Pasta and The Wine Therapist. For further information, contact Hexter Elementary at 972-502-5800.

First time I visited the new DFW Airport Terminal D, it was too early in the morning to take notice. I was an extra in an American Airlines commercial. It was more fun to ogle the craft services table and read a book. Last night, I picked up Erik at the terminal. After finding rock star parking, I enjoyed standing in one spot as numerous moving sidewalks propelled me forward. So disco. And sedentary. This terminal is the land of flat screens, terrazzo floors, slickity slickness, and really confusing signage. I had to ask 3 people where the baggage claim was (the airport workers were equally lost, or wanted to keep me lost). Once Erik and I got ourselves together, we went on a scavenger hunt for the ATM, which led us through the snazzy new Hyatt, built right into the terminal. All very sci-fi and kinda Asian sleek. We happened through the new restaurant at the new hotel, which was a sea of haircut men in polo shirts - a business man mating ground. You could feel the stock market groaning through their conversations, and the expense accounts simmering on the plates at the tables. Where are the prostitutes, I was wondering. I thought these demographics go hand in hand. I wonder if those men were wondering the same thing? In any event, it really was sleek and sophisticated. And the food smelled great. If I was to be stuck at Terminal D without an Admiral’s Club membership, knowing what I now know, I’d hide out there. They had a swanky coffee shop too (called Moka). That reminds me. Future post idea: the independent coffee shops in Dallas (let’s all support them!). Gachet on Greenville is my favorite. Okay, I’ll save that for another post….cheers!

Well hello there Metroblog. Jayna W here, signing in for duty. I hope this is merely the beginning of one long, loving Dallas ramble, benefiting someone, somewhere, somehow. Expect many future diversions regarding all of the wonderful hidden gems in Oak Cliff, which will make your Dallas life meaningful, if it isn’t already. There are so many wonderful things happening here, including the Rottweiler that just showed up in my backyard. She’s a party animal. Anyhow, so my friend Teresa Nasty, one heckuva photographer, has a cool art show opening tomorrow night (tuesday) at Minc, Exposition Ave., Fair Park. Really worth checking out if you like art that’s actually good and frollicking with colorful people who like art that’s actually good. Here’s her flyer, so you can have a looksee for yourself.
